Initiatives funded in Pennine Division
Crow Wood Rural Watch
The NPT has linked up with crime prevention and local residents to form a Rural Watch group to claim the area back for the residents. This group intends to erect a series of signs along the roads and lanes to advertise the partnership between the police and residents to combat crime and anti social behaviour.
Pendle Girls Group
A specifically designed multi agency 6 week programme to work with nine yr 8 and yr 9 girls identified as at an early risk of Child Sexual Exploitation but not reaching the higher levels required for statutary assessment, this will be delivered in 7 secondary schools across Pendle. The final session will involve a Pamper Day at the hair and beauty dept of the local college, using the students within this environment as positive young role models.
Safer Cycle Scheme
The safer cycle project will involve an accreditation scheme for cyclists in school that will be administered by the police and school in a partnership agreement. Concerns have been raised in relation to safety and security, with the school agreeing the purchase of fluorescent tops for children and the police bidding for security marking kits and cycle locks.
Police Information Stall
In September 2011 the Lesbian, Gay Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) community will be holding Burnley’s first ever Gay Pride event in the Town Centre. The main aim is to raise awareness of all aspects of discrimination in society and issues affecting the lives of LGBT people. This celebration of LGBT life will be an event open to all members of the community and this project comprises the provision of an information stall.
Martial Arts Summer School
The project is going to be a six week introduction the Martial Art of Ju-Jitsu, It will be run during the summer holidays and is going to be run for 15 children from the Burnley area aged between eight and fifteen. The course will offer participants a free uniform, belt and insurance to the club for a whole year and if students are successful on the course then they are graded to red belt status.
Away Fixture
To reduce anti social behaviour, a piece of disused land has been sourced and permission granted to use it as a play area should it be agreed at the town council meeting. The project involves local children helping to clear the land and for some permanent goal posts to be put in position.
Educating Communities in Hate Crime
The project involves the education of communities into what is a Hate Incident/Crime, effects of Hate Crime on both victims and their families and the aftermath of such incidents, such as raised community tensions. The project will not only focus upon racist crimes but use the opportunity to address all aspects of Hate Crime/Incidents.
