Initiatives funded in Eastern Division during 2006-07
JUNIOR POLICE ACADEMY
To assist in combining the four police academies in Blackburn into one
big Junior Police Academy in an effort to engage with young people and
address issues including criminal damage, racism, alcohol misuse etc.
in addition to increasing the levels of trust between young people and the Police.
FEEL SAFE
To provide personal safety advice and attack alarms for the vulnerable elderly
members of Little Harwood and Daisyfield area.
ALERT TO DANGER
The purchase of door alarms that will be fitted to protect the vulnerable
elderly residents from distraction burglary in Hyndburn.
SOLAR SECURITY LIGHTING
The purchase of 1,000 solar powered security lights that will be fitted
at the homes of the vulnerable elderly community in Hyndburn.
SAFE HAVEN
The Safe Have bus is situated in Blackburn Town Centre at weekends and
is staffed by representatives from the emergency services to address issues of
excessive alcohol, illness or injury, inability to get home etc. It is a multi-agency
initiative aimed at providing a point of contact to anyone in need. Our grant will
go towards the refurbishment of the vehicle.
PEEL STREET CHURCH
The purchase and fitting of a set of gates at Peel Street
Baptist Church in Accrington aimed at reducing incidents of local people
sitting on the steps of the church and drinking.
TARGETING UNDER AGE DRINKERS
To address the issue of adults buying alcohol for underage drinkers
by producing 300 posters and 1,000 leaflets that will be circulated in Hyndburn
outlining the consequences of purchasing alcohol for under 18’s.
OPERATION PEACH (PROTECTING THE ELDERLEY AGAINST CRIME IN HYNDBURN)
To purchase personal attack alarms in the run up to Christmas that will be
given out by PCSO’s and CBM’s to the vulnerable elderly members of the Hyndburn Community.
OPERATION BOTTLEWATCH
Working with volunteers to secure tamper evident stickers,
unique to each off-license, to bottles and cans of alcohol that are popular to
under age drinkers. If these items are found in the possession of under 18’s it can
be traced back to the relevant off-license where the necessary action will be taken.
BEST BAR NONE
To run an accreditation scheme for the 180 licensed premises in the towns of
Blackburn and Darwen by setting minimum standards for pubs and clubs. The scheme is
recognised and supported by the Home Office.
HENTHORN LIGHTING
The provision of lighting at the back of a youth shelter to reduce the fears
of legitimate users and dog walkers.
YOUTH DISPLAY BANNERS
The production of promotional banners to maximise publicity
for the work of the Constabulary with young people.
BULLYING AND ME
A leaflet will be produced to inform and educate young
people on both the effects and the potential criminal consequences of bullying.
ANPR @ LINK 59 CLITHEROE
The provision of CCTV for an Industrial Estate in Clitheroe linked to an
Automatic Number Plate Recognition database at Clitheroe police station to
identify cars involved in criminal activity on the estate.
BEE AWARE
The provision of CCTV for the town centre of Ribchester to reduce anti social
behaviour and reassure residents.
SAINT PAULS CHURCH
The provision of perspex coverings for leaded windows that are the target of damage
CONSEQUENCES
Activities aimed at educating young people on the impact of their
behaviour on other peoples’ lives.
DARWEN TOWN BOUNCE
The provision of equipment to run discos for under 18’s in Darwen as a
diversionary activity from anti-social behaviour.
REPARATION AND ENHANCEMENT – EDGE END
The improvement of the environment by young offenders to establish
ownership and pride in the local area.
BURGLARS FOOTPRINT
An inexpensive but highly impactive leaflet shaped as a footprint containing valuable information for householders
aiming to reduce the incidence of repeat victimisation.
