Initiatives funded in Central Division during 2006-07

OPERATION TOM TOM

To address the issue of stolen satellite navigational equipment in Preston, the aim is to purchase a “Sat Nav” tracker that will be set as a “rat trap” to locate the device once it is stolen and track the offender.

OPERATION DETAG

To purchase graffiti kits to assist with the removal of graffiti in Fulwood and to include the offenders in reparation work when possible.

CCTV UPGRADE

For the upgrade of CCTV cameras in the Savick area of Preston. The existing equipment needs replacing but it has been successful in reducing incidents of anti-social behaviour and crime in the area, with one incident of an armed robbery the CCTV was a major factor in gaining convictions.

For the upgrade of CCTV cameras on the Larches estate in Preston. The existing equipment needs replacing but it has been successful in reducing incidents of anti-social behaviour and crime in the area.

DAMAGE DETERRENCE

To provide CCTV to reduce incidents of criminal damage and other crime in and around the area of Broadgate in Preston.

OPERATION CLEAN-UP

The provision of graffiti removal kits to effectively remove graffiti immediately by the local community and hence prevent further damage occurring.

RETURN TO SENDER

To purchase ultra-violet lamps for Lea and Fulwood Police Stations to assist in the detection and return of recovered stolen property that has been post coded using Smartwater.

MOSQUITO UNIT

To assist in the reduction of incidents of anti-social behaviour by young people congregating outside shops in Manchester Road Preston, by purchasing a Mosquito Unit which provides a high frequency sound that can only be heard by young people.

HIGH VISIBILITY JACKETS

The purchase of high visibility jackets to protect primary school children walking to school in the rural area of Grimsargh.

RURAL ROAD SAFETY

The purchase of a smiley face indicator to assist in road safety issues in the rural outlying areas of Preston.

REFURBISHMENT TANTERTON FLAT

The refurbishment of a flat used by the Tenants Association, Neighbourhood Watch and the community for meetings and as a drop-in centre.

OPERATION DEFLECT

The advertising of a mobile phone number at football matches so that supporters can phone or text details of anti social, racist or homophobic behaviour.

OPERATION DIAMOND BACK

The security marking of bikes and education of cyclists regarding bike security to reduce the number of thefts in Fulwood.

CYCLE SAFE

The education of cyclists, young people and motorists in an effort to reduce road traffic accidents.

OPERATION DUCK

The provision of bollards and shrubs at the entrance to a village green to reduce the number of cars causing ant-social behaviour and to improve the safety of legitimate users of the green.

VISUAL AIDE

The provision of a roll-up sign to be used as a visual aide to promote Neighbourhood Watch.

TOWER ACTIVITIES

The provision of diversionary sport activities for former drug abusers to help in rehabilitation and the development of self esteem.

TOWER TRAVEL

The provision of a bus pass to former drug abusers to improve the uptake of treatment and well being.

HUNNIBALL HAVEN

The fitting of Identislot facilities in the vulnerable elderly, deaf and disabled residents in the lane Ends area of Preston.

RURAL ROAD SAFETY

The purchase of a portable sign and palm held device to indicate to road users what speed they are travelling. A smiley face will indicate if they are travelling within the speed limit.

TRI-BOARDS

The provision of warning signs on a cinema car park to encourage vehicle users not to leave valuables on show.

SMARTWATER

The provision of Smartwater for the property of the vulnerable elderly,

DOORSTEP CRIME PROJECT

The use of CCTV to reduce the risk of repeat victimisation.

COMMUNITY SIGN POST HOLDERS

The provision of weatherproof poster holders on lampposts to raise awareness of community issues, crime prevention and other activities.

OPERATION DURHAM

The promotion of details of the local police and crime prevention messages on community notice boards.

OPERATION DURHAM

The purchase of UV security pens to mark property in the St Matthews Ward of Preston.

OPERATION SHELTER

To provide a basic youth shelter in the Brookfield area of Preston.

IDENTISLOTS

To install the identislot system to premises occupied by vulnerable members of the community.

HAREWOOD ROAD/RUFUS STREET FENCING

To erect a tall fence and large gate on an alleyway to prevent the misuse of a United Utilities sub station.

BARTON JUNIOR FOOTBALL SCHEME

Continuation of a football coaching scheme for young people in the Barton area.
