Lancashire Crimebeat

What’s it all about?
If you wanted to organise a project that would help make where you live, play or ‘hang around’ a better place to be, what would you choose?
Would you concentrate on trying to prevent or reduce the misuse of drugs?
Perhaps try to stop crime and bullying among young people of your age group?
Would you want to get rid of all the litter near your school or try to get to know more about young people from different backgrounds to you?
Could you do something to make elderly people feel less afraid of large groups of young people?
Have you ever wanted to do something that makes you feel like you have really made a difference to the estate that you or your family live in?
Do you perhaps feel that you aren’t being listened to and that you want to that?
Would you like to have the opportunity to do something for yourself and the people around you?

Things we are looking for when we make awards:
Projects which allow young people to tackle the problems of their community themselves.
Project organised by, and involving, groups of young people aged under 25 years old.
Sufficient adult and professional support for the project.
Projects with a significant element of crime prevention/ community safety.
Projects that promote young people as valued members of their community.
Projects which include as many sections of the community as possible.
Projects where Crimebeat money will mean the difference between success and failure.

The Project
Taking into account the above list, what kind of project do you have in mind?
What are the problems or issues of your local community that you would like to address?
What kinds of subjects are you interested in?
What do you think would make your local area/ community/ group better off for having?
Who would you like to help?
How do you think you can help them?

Before you fill in the application form ask yourself these questions:
Does your project really need Crimebeat money to succeed or is it the support of the High Sheriff that is more important?
Does your project meet any of the things in the list given earlier?
Have you thought through the way your project will work and the best you can get out of it?
Are you making the most of your ideas and getting the best from your ideas?
How will you know that your project has worked?
