The Bomb Threat
This information has been written for the managers and
owners of small businesses and its purpose is to help
reduce the risk of a bomb attack against you, your staff,
your customers and your property. First of all you should
decide how likely a terrorist attack against your
business is. If your organisation could be targeted by a
particular terrorist group, take that into account when
you are planning how to protect your organisation. You
should also think about getting more detailed advice than
is given here. However, terrorists do not always target
specific businesses when they plant bombs. They may well
plant them at random, so your business might be affected
simply because of where it is. The chances of you
suffering a bomb attack may also change over time. In
some cases, if you are at high risk, you may receive
information directly from the police. Otherwise, you can
get a good idea of the level of terrorist activity from
reports in the media. If you own or manage a small
business, the advice given will help you to make your
staff safer and your building more secure. You will also
be protecting your business against other forms of crime.
Some Useful Information
Bombs are easily disguised. They may be hidden in bags,
cases or other everyday containers and in out-of-the-way
places. Vehicles can carry large bombs without showing
any signs. You should treat any object which is unusual
or out of place with suspicion. There are four kinds of bombs
which you should know about:
The high explosive bomb
The vehicle bomb
The incendiary bomb
The postal bomb
